    LUBAO, PAMPANGA — More than 1,000 breast cancer patients including barangay health workers attended the Breast Cancer Summit sponsored by Governor Lilia Pineda in line with the Breast Cancer Month every October held on Friday at Pineda Sports Complex,this town.

    The governor urged the participants to help in significantly reducing the woman’s risk of developingbreast cancer.

    “If you feel that you have a breast mass, immediately ask your doctor and take an advise from on how to treat as early detection could prevent cancer. Don’t take it for granted. This could be easily treated and cured but deadly if not given proper and immediate attention,” thegovernor said.

    To support the early detection of breast cancer among Kapampangan women, Governor Pineda said the Capitol will purchase Electo Impedance ComputerMammogram.

    Dr. Antonio Jay Rivera said Ricardo P. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital Annex in this town has put up a chemotherapy unit to cater to the cancer patients at a minimalcost.

    “The indigent cancer patients have now the chance to avail free consultation, check-up and medicines at no cost and surgical operations at a minimal amount at RodriguezHospital,” he said.

    Dr. Ma Cristina Almonte, ob-gynecologist gave lecture on breast cancer awareness Almonte said breast cancer usually starts off in the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply them with milk and a malignant tumorcan spread to other parts of the body.

    “The vast majority of breast cancer cases occur in females. This article focuses on breast cancer in women. We also have an article about male breast cancer,”she said.

    Dr. Arthur Jayson Go, onchologist said breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer in females worldwide.

    “Breast cancer accounts for 16% of all female cancers and 22.9% of invasive cancers in women. 18.2% of all cancer deaths worldwide, including both males and females, are from breast cancer,” Go said.

    Dr. Go also gave tips on how to prevent breast cancer as follows: avoid too much alcohol consumption but drink moderately; take physical exercise as this activity can lower breast cancer; diet; post menopausal hormone therapy; body weight;

    He said women are always at high risk of breast cancer; hence, it is advisable that they should undergo breast cancer screening examination.

    He added that women who breastfeed run a lower risk of developing breast cancer compared to other women.

    The breast cancer patients were also given financial, medicines and food assistance from the provincial government.

    The breast cancer summit was also attended by Board Member Anthony Joseph Torres, Sto Tomas Vice Mayor Mark Louie Arceo, Bacolor Vice Mayor Ananias Canlas, Provincial Health Officer Marcelo Jaochico, Dr. Maria Imelda Ignacio, PDRRMO Angelina Blanco, former Chief of Staff Fritzie David Dizon and Executive Assistant Edna Vitug.
