Have you seen an ordinary bath towel pleated into a “lover-like- kissing swan”? What are the effective tools to be a successful hotelier? I guess you were engrossed with all these questions and probably yearning for the answers.
Not until the Northern Philippines Center for Hospitality and Tourism, Inc. (NP-CHAT) staged the second Hospitality and Tourism Conference themed as, “ Modernized Global Trends for Better Opportunities “ at Hotel Stotsenberg Clark, Pampanga last August 23-24. Attended by almost 700 enthusiastic Hospitality and Tourism students and faculty all over the Philippines including delegates from Global Knowledge Academy Tarlac, Fernandez College of Arts & Technology Bulacan, Cavite State University, Collegio de Letran Manila, University of Visaya, STI, Systems Plus, Dominican College and other schools. The two day conference meant to provide the students unique educational tour, hotel familiarity, camaraderie and seminars that would impart new trends and different career opportunities.
The event was formally opened by an inspiring message from Yolanda Olana TESDA Region III Director and followed by different seminars from top notch speakers that included Lawrence Tan of LKY Resorts and Hotels, recognized as the youngest Vice President in the Philippines, gave an interesting discussion on the Career Opportunity of the Hospitality Industry in the 21st Century, Dra. Gloria Baken Wong-Siy of AAHHRMEI and Dean of Trinity University of Asia tackled on the global trends and said “to be competitive and successful you don’t only need proper education and skills but most importantly you need to have the right attitude”, Chef Josephine Mendoza owner of Tollhouse and Chef Jason Cruz whipped on Gourmet Food Styling and Presentation and Modern Cake Decoration, Neofito Santos Hotel and Restaurant Consultant in California U.S.A. inspired the audience with Event Management in 21st Century Goldmine, creative presentation on Cruise Management with Hands On Bed Making and Towel Folding lead by Mark Tandoc Assistant Executive Housekeeper Costa International, and lastly Terry Nacino-Velasco TESDA Assessor shared the Basic Computer Reservation System (CRS) particularly on the Abacus Whiz.
According to the Chairman of NP-CHAT, John Chan, “this conference is a communal and selfless efforts of different schools and universities that focus on every HRM or Tourism student needs, at the end of the conference each student is expected to learn the different tools that would prepare or guide her/his future career, upgrade and enlighten in the global spectrum, and also we will give each student certificate of completion of the five seminars. There are still lots of things to explore and share to students and next year conference we are planning to pattern the program with the development of airport and seaport”
