Morales convenes POC vs illegal drugs

    MABALACAT CITY – Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales has convened the Peace and Order Council (POC) here to enhance the war against illegal drugs as well as to deal with the aftermath.

    At the Royce Hotel at the Clark Freeport Zone on Wednesday, Morales said there is no let-up in the war versus illegal drugs in the city especially with the headway it is making in the national scene.

    Morales said the POC has approved two resolutions; the fi rst asking the city government to provide funding for the construction of a drug rehabilitation center in the city; and the second asking the city government to provide funding for the community- based drug rehabilitation programs for the victims of illegal drugs.

    Morales, who heads the POC, said they are now scouting for a site for the proposed drug rehabilitation center preferably in Barangay Sapang Balen which is far from the city’s downtown area.

    Aside from Morales, city police officer-in-charge, Chief Insp. Gil Domingo, along with all 27 barangay captains of the city as well as all department heads of the city government, and Vice Mayor Christian Halili were present during the POC meeting.

    Morales said non-government organizations, members of the academe and religious organizations were also present during the POC meeting held last Monday.

    The POC is a venue for dialogue and debate on major issues and problems aff ecting peace and order in the city with the problem of illegal drugs now taking the center stage.
