CLARK FREEPORT – Some 112 players joined in the just concluded Capampangan in Media, Inc. (CAMI) invitational golf tournament at the Mimosa Golf and Country Club here last Friday.
Setting the pace in the ceremonial tee-off was nine-year old Jungolf champion Annyka Pineda Cayabyab who
unleashed a mammoth drive to the delight of spectators at hole number one of the Lakeview course.
Next on the tee was Wack-Wack Golf and Country Club president Philip “Popoy” Juico who launched a similar drive. Clark Development Corp. (CDC) president and CEO Arthur P. Tugade was next with a long drive as it bounced and rolled on the green before caddies beat each other to retrieve it.
The last on the ceremonial tee was former congressman and current president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) Jose “Peping” Cojuangco who likewise launched a powerful drive veering slightly to the left before bouncing on the green.
The invitational golf tournament dubbed, “First Clark Golf Cup,” was organized by CAMI in cooperation with the CDC using the Double Peoria scoring system. Emerging champion in the Class A division was Fernando Delos Reyes who scored a 70 with his well-rounded golf game.
The first runner up was Kim Jin Gyu, 70 and second runner up was Kim Si Hoo, 71. In the Class B division, Rey Dron was declared champion with a core of 72 while Ely Saludar with a 72 was first runner up followed by Francis Dimaliwat with a score of 73.
Teo Han Chua is champion the Class C division with a score of 67 while Rolaud Lallana with 68 is first runner up followed by Edward Isidro with a 69. The Ladies Division was dominated by Arline Ward with a score of 68 while Hwang Hye Young was first runner up with a core of 71.
The fun holes winners were Yang Ju Yung nearest to the pin at 2 ½ feet at Acacia hole number 3. The longest drive was bagged by Jun Romero with a 296 yard-drive at the Lakeview number 5 while the most accurate drive was given to EdgarDe Guzman with a mere 10 inches at Lakeview hole number 5.
Song Si Hon was adjudged the Low Gross winner with a score of 71 and Benzon Tang scoring 66 garnered the Low Net winner who with his mastery of the golf course.
Manila Bulletin veteran newsman Mario Casayuran scoring a leisurely 107 was handed the trophy for the Most Exercise.
