MEXICO, Pampanga – Teachers and students of an elementary school in Barangay Nueva Victoria here were the recipients of the “Gift of Knowledge” from the Property Company of Friends (Pro-Friends) in partnership with the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI).

In a ceremony last Thursday, Pro-Friends and the KCFI turned over an educational aid package composed of audio-visual equipment including a mini laptop, a flat LED TV, a set of speakers, educational videos and online games as well as technical training for teachers that will be supervised by the former dubbed as “The Gift of Knowledge” to students and teachers of the Nueva Victoria Elementary School led by the School Principal Inocencio L. Cunanan.

Schools Division Superintendent of Pampanga Malcolm S. Garma said the educational aid package “is very timely” since the Department of Education (DepEd) in the province has launched the “Happy School Movement” last June that seeks to promote fun in the school.

He said “the movement aims to inculcate in the minds of the students that learning is fun.  Our schools here in Pampanga have happy and friendly atmosphere and we want to encourage students to be in school, stay there and learn. We will see to it that learning can be fun.”

Lourdes P. Tioseco, senior manager and resource mobilization of KCFI, agreed with Garma and explained that the foundation, which is now operating for 14 years producing and broadcasting programs for day care, elementary and high school students, has online games that promote fun in learning.

“Knowledge is also fun and interactive for the students and the learners so that they can realize their full potential,” she said. “Knowledge is a right and not a privilege,” she added.

For her part, Tani V. Puyat, AVP for Marketing of Pro-Friends, said it is the objective of the company to “somehow in our own little way we can contribute toward the development of education in the country.” Puyat also acknowledged the KCFI for their effort in improving children’s education especially in public schools.

She explained that the funds for the Gift of Knowledge were culled from the proceeds of a “Fun Run” organized by Pro-Friends in Manila last February which aimed to help three schools where the company has property development like in Cavite, Iloilo and Pampanga.

“We hope that the effort will really help the children in their studies so that children will not get bored and uneasy,” she said as she also commended DepEd Pampanga for its effort in making learning both fun and easy.

Grade 6 pupil Lee Ann L. de la Cruz accepted the Gift of Knowledge in behalf of the school saying “it was a dream come true for the school to receive such a wonderful gift.”

She said at present understanding technology is necessary as she expressed her gratitude to Pro-Friends led by Puyat and KCFI led by Tioseco.

Meanwhile, Cunanan also expressed his thanks for the educational aid package and hailed the parents as well for literally sprucing up the school for the turnover ceremony.

The KCFI  is a not-for-profit organization that operates the Knowledge Channel (K Channel) and kchonline.ph, the first and only TV and online media tandem primarily focused on the Philippines’ basic education curriculum.

Following the DepEd curriculum as guide, KCFI brings K-12 and Alternative Learning subjects and concepts to life on TV, the Internet and video on demand in the classrooms, learning centers, and homes.
