CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Despite the claim of certain sectors that the much vaunted solid Catholic vote is a myth, Church leaders in this capital city say otherwise.

As of yesterday, lay leaders who asked for anonymity for lack of authority to speak, said they are solidly behind the candidacy of Councilor Jimmy T. Lazatin who is running for city vice mayor.

Religious leaders from other denominations echo the same sentiment as well the business sector and members of the academe.

Lazatin’s late father, Jesus S. Lazatin was a known philanthropist and supporter of the Church.

Last April 6, Lazatin mounted a motorcade that snaked through the city participated in by some 150 vehicles, 250 motorcycles, and 1,200 friends and supporters.

From March 30 to April 16, Lazatin was able to cover 15 barangays in this city campaigning vigorously house-to-house with Barangays Del Carmen, Telabastagan, Malino, Panipuan, Alasas, and Pandaras as among the much attended villages in his “miting de avance.”

Lazatin counts among his supporters barangay officials, church people, the academe, homeowners, women’s club, and the business sector.

Yesterday, Lazatin, who advocates education as his platform, attended the graduation rites of the City College at the Heroes Hall here.

Today, Lazatin is set to campaign house-to-house in Barangay San Felipe in the morning and attend a barangay caucus in the afternoon. A miting de avance is set in the barangay later at 7 pm.
