BALIUAG, Bulacan—At least a hundred persons including those with disabilities and children marked the onset of the summer season as they joined the first kite making and flying festival at the SM mall here on Sunday.

Architect Andrew Cristobal, SM Baliuag mall manager, said hosting the annual festival was designed to revive the traditional summer activity.

“It’s a wholesome activity which families and persons with disability (PWD) enjoyed,” Cristobal said.

The festival started with a kite making workshop at the mall’s event center just after lunch on Sunday where a moderator taught them basic techniques in making their kites.

The workshop attracted not only senior citizens and PWDs, but mall goers as well especially those bringing children with them.

“It’s a good family bonding activity,” said Joyce Arce who rushed to make a kite with her daughter.

By 4 p.m. participants in the workshop joined the Kite Flying festival at the mall’s parking lot.

Soon, colorful kites with design, like butterflies, eagle, sun flowers soared in the sky along with kites made by the participants.

Beverly Bernado-Cruz, the mall’s public relations officer, said they intend to hold the festival annually.

She said that other SM malls had conducted the same but it was only yesterday that they held it here.
