IT TOOK a long time coming, but finally, Brig. Gen. Augusto “Gen” Padua has earned his well-deserved first star.

We are beyond elated over this milestone for a dedicated officer whose career has long been defined by quiet competence, deep intellect, and an unwavering commitment to the skies.

Long before his star—and long before he earned his honors as a 2021 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipino Soldier for his administrative leadership and airpower contributions—Gen Padua was leading from the cockpit and the flight line as the commander of the legendary 7th Fighter “Bulldogs” Squadron, flying with the call sign “VC.”

A sharp strategist and thinker, Gen Padua didn’t just fly; he helped shape the future of our skies. He was deeply involved in efforts that resulted in the acquisition by the Air Force of the FA-50 Fighting Eagles that are now helping defend Philippine skies.

True to form, he is a leader who prefers the frontlines over a comfortable desk. When we recently visited Pag-asa Island, he was right there on the ground, serving as the deputy wing commander of the Tactical Operations Wing-West.

Now, he steps into his new role as the Deputy Commander for External Defense Operations of the Western Command.

Given his fighter squadron roots, strategic mastery, and boots-on-the-ground experience protecting our farthest frontiers, there is no one more fitting to help steer our external defense.

Congratulations, Gen Padua!

Saludo kami sa iyong patuloy na paglilingkod sa bayan.
