CABANATUAN CITY – To improve water delivery and provide farmers with more sustainable irrigation sources, especially with the expected El Niño, the National Irrigation Administration-Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems (NIA-UPRIIS) Division I has turned over 10 solar-powered irrigation pumps and a canal lining project in Nueva Ecija to irrigators’ associations.
The concrete hollow block canal lining project covers Lateral F4 of the Kaipilan Irrigators’ Association (IA) in Barangay Casulucan Este, Talavera town to improve irrigation efficiency and reduce water losses for the members.
Installed in San Jose City, the 10 solar-powered irrigation pumps stand to benefit six IAs: Kasavilla, Talipa, Tusita, Dica, Cristamakita, and Catanaka.

NIA-UPRIIS said that by harnessing solar energy, the pumps are expected to provide a cost-effective and reliable water source, particularly during dry seasons.
During El Niño events, reduced water availability may affect agricultural activities, highlighting the importance of sustainable irrigation solutions for farmers.
The projects form part of NIA’s efforts to provide farmers with modern, sustainable, and climate-resilient irrigation facilities, consistent with the pursuit of the Marcos administration to advance agricultural productivity and food security through improved irrigation systems and continued support for Filipino farmers.
