MALOLOS CITY—It’s all systems go for the Second Bulacan Business Conference (BBC-2) on April 28 and 29 where some 300 entrepreneurs are expected to participate.

The BBC-2 is organized by the Bulacan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) which is considered as the voice of Bulacan business.

Like the first conference held in late February last year, the BBC-2 is expected to gather some 300 businessmen, entrepreneurs and local officials across the province.

Mara Bautista, the executive director of the BCCI said that the focus of this year’s BBC-2 is on recovery of local business from the impact of the global financial crisis.

As the focus of the conference, Bautista said that it is just natural as the provincial government spearheaded the resilience forum last month.

“We would like to encourage local businessmen to have a mindset on how they will position their businesses for economic rebound,” said Bautista referring to the theme of the two-day business conference will be held at the BarCIE International Hotel here.

Violeta Luna, president of the BCCI, said they have invited a number of resource persons for the two-day conference that they hope to give inspiration to participants.

Among the invited resource persons are Las Pinas Lone District Rep. Cynthia Villar, former Governor Josie de la Cruz, Director Jaime Santiago of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Central Luzon, Robert Kwan of Chowking, Ambassador Jesus Tambunting of Planters Development Bank, and Professor Nelia Cruz Sarcol.

Luna said Villar is set to talk about livelihood and entrepreneurial opportunities; Dela Cruz on the opportunities related with the North Food Exchange (NFEX) project; Santiago on current business taxes.

Peyuan will discuss matching skills development programs with local needs, while Kwan will talk on keys to successful business Tambunting on positioning local business for economic rebound.

Known as the voice of the local business community, the BCCI hosted the BBC-1 last year which was highlighted by the organization of local market vendors association in the province headed by Gilbert Angeles.

The said organization even submitted a resolution asking assistance from local government units and the BCCI that helped organized them.

Bautista said that assisting an organization of local market vendors and retailers is a natural response as they are part of the local business and economic landscape.

Citing earlier statement of former BCCI president Teofilo Rivera Jr., Bautista said economic development is not concentrated on bigger business because retailers serves as a key in all economic development.

As this developed, Tony Tengco, the newly elected chairman of BCCI said that the chamber has also helped organized business councils in different towns of the province.

These include the business councils of Hagonoy, San Miguel, Bustos, Calumpit, Pulilan, San Rafael, Pandi, Baliuag, and Plaridel in addition to existing business councils in Sta. Maria and Guiguinto and the cities of Malolos and Meycauayan which were organized earlier.

Tengco said the officials of the newly organized business councils will take oath during the two day business conference.

He said local business councils are crucial in the efficiency of different programs and projects of the BCCI as they serve as conduits.
