MALOLOS CITY—Will Bulacan make it to the Guinness Book of World Records?

The answer will be known today (Friday) as the province make public the much awaited world’s longest pastillas or carabao milk candy.

Governor Joselito Mendoza will lead the presentation of the 200-meter-long, five- inch-thick pastillas made by some 1,000 Bulakenyos in front of the provincial capitol here.
Mendoza said that the said pastillas will weigh at least 4,000 kilos made from over a hundred gallons of carabao milk.

“Our longest pastillas highlights the skills and unity of the Bulakenyos,” he said adding that it also represents the Tatak Bulakenyo products launched three years ago.

He said that Guinness representatives will be on hand in the presentation to verify the feat.
If it passed, Bulacan’s longest pastillas will be included in the amazing feat category of the Guinness Book of World Records.

Mendoza said that he already asked the Department of Education (DepEd) to cancel classes today for students to witness the unveiling of the longest pastillas and to take part in the week-long Singkaban Fiesta celebrations.
“Sama-sama nating kakainin ang pastillas pagkatapos,” he said.

As this developed, the presentation of the longest pastillas will be immediately followed by the lechon festival where at least 50 pigs and 1,000 chicken will be roasted.

Dr. Felipe Bartolome, the provincial veterinarian said that an additional 10,000 eggs will be boiled and will be given away.

This excited a number of Bulakenyos who said they will come to witness the day long activities.
Richard Boiser of San Rafael town said, “malaking fiesta talaga ito, ang daming pagkain.”
The same was echoed by other Bulakenyos like Federico Chico of Malolos City who jokingly said, “masarap kumain, pero bakit parang nauna yung dessert,” referring to the pastillas which will be given away first before the roasted pigs and chickens.
