BALANGA CITY — The outbreak of avian influenza in San Luis, Pampanga has greatly affected the sale of chicken meat and eggs in Bataan on the third day Monday.

There are no reports of the bird fl u virus in Bataan but the province is adjacent to Pampanga.

Chicken meat stalls at the Balanga City Public Market were almost empty of buyers Monday with stall holders having the same complaint.

“Matumal, apektado kami ng bird flu. Mababa na presyo pero hindi pa rin lumakas ang benta,” Evelyn Avocado said when asked about her sale of chicken meat.

She said that from P160 per kilo of dressed chicken, the price has been lowered to P130 but still they have fewer customers.

Fe Dacayan, another chicken meat seller, said even restaurants in Balanga City that they used to supply have greatly cut their orders. “Mula 100 percent, 10 percent na lang ang kinukuha nilang manok,” she said.

A stall holder noticed a 50 percent drop in her sale of eggs. Due to lack of supply caused by bird flu, she said that the price of an egg increased from P1.30 to P1.40.

“Matumal ang benta ng itlog dahil sa balitang bird flu,” the woman said.
