LLANERA, Nueva Ecija (PIA) — The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) inspected ongoing protection works for the inverted siphon along Diversion Canal No. 1 at Talavera River in Barangay San Francisco, Llanera, Nueva Ecija, to strengthen irrigation infrastructure and help ensure reliable water delivery to farmers.

NIA Officer-in-Charge Deputy Administrator for Engineering and Operations Reyne Ugay and Design and Specifications Division Manager Ariel Najera led the inspection, joined by key officials from the Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems.

The team checked the condition of the structure in preparation for the upcoming wet season.

According to NIA, the inverted siphon is a vital component of the irrigation system that conveys water to the TRIS Lower service area, which covers 19,235.62 hectares and benefits 13,943 farmers across parts of Nueva Ecija.

These include the municipalities of Llanera, Talavera, Quezon, Sto. Domingo, and Licab, as well as the cities of San Jose and Muñoz.

The agency noted that the protection works are intended to prevent further deterioration of the exposed inverted siphon and preserve its structural integrity, ensuring the facility’s long-term functionality and uninterrupted delivery of irrigation water—particularly during the wet season when reliable infrastructure is critical.

Through this effort, NIA reaffirmed its commitment to the protection and improvement of irrigation facilities nationwide to boost productivity in the agriculture sector and support farmers’ welfare, in line with the food security goals of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ‘s administration. (CLJD/MAECR, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija)
