‘No substitute for harmony in the workplace’ — CDC chief

CLARK FREEPORT—Clark Development Corporation (CDC) President and CEO Atty. Agnes VST Devanadera addressed more 144 human resource practitioners from 66 locator companies that workplace conflicts, when handled constructively, can strengthen professional relationships.

“Conflict is something universal,” Atty. Devanadera said during the CDC and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region III’s Joint Labor Seminar.

“Even in our respective families, no matter how hard conflict is, no matter how good our parents are, our children are, conflicts are part of life. It only matters on how we deal with the conflict.”

She stressed that conflicts are unavoidable in any organization but can be turned into opportunities for growth and dialogue.

“There is no substitute for good and harmonious relationship in the workplace,” she said.

“When the relationship is harmonious, 60 percent of the problems are solved,” the CDC chief said.

Drawing from her experience as a lawyer and public servant, Atty. Devanadera urged HR practitioners to promote mediation and open communication as tools for de‑escalating tensions.

“We are always a winner when we open up and we look for the middle ground,” she said.

The seminar featured sessions on grievance handling and conflict management, equipping Clark locators with practical approaches to workplace challenges.

Clark-based manufacturing company Trener Industries Philippines Inc. shared its best practices, highlighting how consistent employee engagement and structured HR programs contribute to smoother operations and stronger workplace relations.

The program underscored the continuing partnership of CDC and DOLE in promoting collaboration and advancing employee development initiatives across Clark.
