BALER, Aurora (PIA) — The Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority is advancing plans to be a site for sustainable artificial intelligence (AI) data centers as it steps up efforts to attract digital infrastructure investments.

The move follows recent talks with technology and cloud experts as the ecozone explored ways to build modern digital systems in the area, identify opportunities, and align efforts with industry demand.

APECO President and Chief Executive Officer Gil Taway IV said the initiative forms part of efforts to position Aurora as a destination for advanced technology investments and emerging digital systems.

“This engagement reflects APECO’s continued push to position Aurora as a strategic hub for next-generation digital infrastructure,” he said.

Discussions centered on developing future-ready facilities in the Casiguran ecozone, citing its coastal location, improving connectivity, and capacity to support high-demand digital operations.

The talks also highlighted the area’s potential for renewable energy integration, which can support sustainable data center operations.

“As demand for data centers and AI-driven technologies accelerates, we are actively laying the groundwork to attract high-value investments that will create jobs, drive innovation, and support inclusive growth in Aurora,” Taway added.

In a separate effort, APECO met with the Public-Private Partnership Center to boost its investment promotion work through technical support and capacity building.

The partnership aims to help identify priority projects, conduct market sounding, and strengthen investor engagement.

Both parties are now preparing a memorandum of agreement to establish a pipeline of partnership projects targeted for completion before the end of the year.

With its location, improving infrastructure, and clean energy potential, the Aurora ecozone continues to gain traction as a site for sustainable and modern data facilities in the country. (CLJD/MAT, PIA Region 3-Aurora)
