CITY OF MALOLOS — The local government here provided financial assistance of P10,000 each to the families of overseas Filipino workers trapped in the Middle East.

On March 24, 217 families of OFWs received assistance in addition to the 16 families that were first given last week.

Mayor Atty. Christian Natividad said the assistance is from the city government’s savings and they have allocated a total of more than P2 million to help the dependents of the OFWs who are stuck in the war.

Aside from the said financial assistance, the local government will also cover the airfare of OFWs who want to return here in the country.

He added that in case the conflict is over and they want to return to the Middle East to continue their work, they are still ready to cover their airfares back.

Resident Camile Fajardo is grateful to the Malolos LGU for the financial assistance she received because her mother is an OFW in Abu Dhabi who was also affected by the conflict.

Her mother has been an OFW as a housekeeper for 18 years and because of the war, she wants to return to the Philippines and the financial assistance received will be in addition to her airfare.

Another resident, Leslie Estrella, will use the financial assistance she received to cover her children’s expenses. Her husband is an electrician in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Apart from the initial 233 families given assistance, 100 more are currently being processed for the same aid.
