BALANGA CITY (PIA) — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) turned over a monitoring boat and oil spill booms to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to support coastal surveillance and maritime response operations in Bataan.

DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo said the agency donated a 108-linear meter oil spill boom and a monitoring boat equipped with a 40-horsepower outboard motor to the Coast Guard Sub-Station Bataan.

The equipment will be used for maritime patrol, search and rescue operations, and regular monitoring of waterways in the province.

He emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in strengthening environmental governance and public service delivery.

“Through stronger partnerships with our fellow government agencies, we are able to further enhance our collective capacity to protect the environment and respond to the needs of our coastal communities,” Pablo said.

Meanwhile, DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office Bataan chief Raul Mamac said the additional equipment will improve field response during coastal and marine incidents, including oil spills and other threats to marine resources.

For his part, Coast Guard District National Capital Region-Central Luzon Deputy Commander Francisco Achilles Acedillo expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the donated assets will boost the PCG’s operational readiness in safeguarding coastal areas and responding to maritime emergencies.

The effort supports law enforcement and environmental monitoring in Bataan’s waterways, a key coastal province along Manila Bay.

It also aligns with the national government’s push to strengthen disaster preparedness, maritime safety, and environmental protection through enhanced coordination among agencies. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
