SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ (PIA) — The Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) launched the first leg of its “Pathways to Excellence: Navigating Compliance and Ethical Governance in the Carabao Industry Cluster Training” to bolster governance and leadership skills among farmer cooperative leaders and Carabao-Based Enterprise Development (CBED) coordinators.

Hosted at PCC Headquarters in Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, the forum drew CBED coordinators, National Carabao Industry Stakeholders Association members, and farmer cooperative board directors.

According to PCC, the forum aims to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills in cooperative governance, ethical leadership, and compliance with industry regulations.

It also readies cooperatives for the operational and financial demands of the expanding Carabao Herd Buildup Project, which ramps up distribution of genetically improved buffaloes to farmer groups.

During the training, Cooperative Development Authority-accredited trainer Adorable Pineda discussed the vital role of good governance and ethical leadership in cooperatives.

Committee on Cooperatives Development legal staff Marc Monterde, on the other hand, covered the salient provisions of Republic Act 9513, also known as the Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008.

PCC said enhanced governance and regulatory knowledge enables farmer cooperatives to operate more efficiently, seize market opportunities, and sustain growth through regulatory compliance.

Succeeding sessions are slated for PCC at Ubay Stock Farm and PCC at Central Mindanao University, extending the training to cooperatives in Mindanao and Visayas. (CLJD/MAECR, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija)
