CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) established new connectivity sites in Zambales, providing residents with access to information and online services.

Recipient villages include Nacolcol in the municipality of Botolan, and Buhawen in the town of San Marcelino.

DICT Region 3 Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP) focal person Carisma Gutierrez said the main goal of the initiative is to provide internet access to areas that have limited or no connectivity.

‎“The DICT wants to make sure that people in these communities can also benefit from online services like education, communication, and government transactions. It’s really about giving equal access to information and opportunities, especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas,” she stated.

‎With the activation of Free Wi-Fi sites in the areas of Zambales, community members are now provided with better access to online learning resources, digital government services, livelihood opportunities, emergency communications, and other essential online platforms.

During the installation and activation of the connectivity sites, DICT Zambales ensured stable and optimal performance of the connectivity through site inspection, equipment mounting, configuration of network devices, and system testing.

‎Gutierrez also mentioned that the DICT remains committed to ensuring the reliability of the sites with the help of technologies such as fiber, satellite, or mobile networks, as well as service providers.

‎She added that the department conducts regular monitoring and maintenance to maintain accessible internet connectivity.

‎With programs such as the FPIAP, DICT strengthens its commitment to digitally empowering Filipinos by bridging the digital divide and promoting digital inclusion through improved connectivity. (CLJD/AJRR, PIA Region 3-Pampanga)
