In Madrid, Spain where the world’s art community gathers each year, Kapampangan visual artist Crystal Pamintuan Tranquilino once again carries the pride of Filipino artistry onto an international platform.
Tranquilino is among the featured artists at JUSTMAD Contemporary Art Fair, one of Spain’s major contemporary art fairs held during Madrid Art Week, an annual convergence of global galleries, collectors, and emerging artistic voices. Running from March 5 to 8, 2026 at the historic Palacio de Neptuno in central Madrid, the fair stands alongside other major exhibitions such as ARCO Madrid, Art Madrid, CAN Art Fair, Hybrid Art Fair, and ARTIST360—a constellation of events that transform the Spanish capital into a global hub of contemporary art.

Featured by Kate Contemporary, Tranquilino is one of only two Filipino artists in the exhibition, alongside visual artist AR Manalo. Her presence at the fair reflects a growing international recognition of Philippine contemporary art, as well as the distinct visual language she has cultivated through years of disciplined practice and cultural grounding.

Hailing from Angeles City in Pampanga, Tranquilino’s journey to the global art stage is a story shaped by devotion to craft and a deep emotional connection to identity and place.
Her career has steadily unfolded through a series of landmark exhibitions. She headlined major presentations at Art Fair Philippines under Metro Gallery in 2020 and 2021, establishing her as a compelling voice in the Philippine contemporary art scene. Her international trajectory continued with a solo exhibition at ARTIST360 in Madrid last year, further expanding her presence in European art circles.

Recognition soon followed. Tranquilino received the prestigious Materials Prize from the Target Art Prize, presented at the historic Ateneo de Madrid, a milestone that affirmed the strength and originality of her artistic vision.
Now featured at JUSTMAD, Tranquilino stands among a new generation of artists reshaping the global contemporary art landscape. Yet even as her works travel across continents, they remain deeply rooted in the sensibilities of home.
As she continues her international momentum, the artist is also preparing for another significant milestone, an upcoming solo exhibition later this year at Metro Gallery, her representative gallery in the Philippines.
Painting the local scene and now making a mark globally, Tranquilino’s path reflects more than artistic success, she brings the brilliance of Filipino creativity to a wider reach.
