GEN. MAMERTO NATIVIDAD, Nueva Ecija – Malacañang on Monday asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an independent probe on the killing of Catholic priest Fr. Richmond Nilo.
Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go said during his visit here on Monday that he will talk to NBI Dir. Dante Gierran to ensure an impartial investigation amid claims of the family of the alleged gunman, Adell Roll Milan, that it was a case of mistaken identity or he was used as fall guy.
“Ipatse-check natin sa NBI kung sakaling hindi sila kuntento sa naging resulta (Let’s have it check with the NBI if they are not satisfied with the result),” Go said.
Milan, who was described by the police as a drug surrenderee and member of a gun for hire group in Nueva Ecija, was arrested at about 6:30 pm Thursday on the eve of Nilo’s interment.
Chief Supt. Amador Corpus, Central Luzon police director, said Milan was positively identified as the gunman by Nilo’s companion from the provincial police’s rogues’ gallery.
Milan’s relative though immediately protested the arrest in social media.
A relative even came up with the police’s computerized sketch of the gunman comparing it with Milan’s photographs.
“Dadamputin ng walang sabi-sabi, walang warrant o timbre sa mga kapulisan ng bayan o barangay (He was nabbed even without any warrant or information to the local police),” Milan’s relative said.
They called on President Duterte to give justice to Milan who was eventually charged with murder, along with five unidentified others.
Meanwhile, Go and Duterte’s partner, Cielito Avanceña, visited five government projects here that included the P1.5 million improvement of the municipal gymnasium; the P.5 million improvement of the multi-purpose Samuel E. Garcia Hall; the P4,240,000 three-storey evacuation center and two multi-purpose gymnasiums worth P4.5 million each.
