TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija (PIA) — The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) and the local government unit (LGU) of Talavera are joining forces to bolster ties in research, extension, and training programs for empowering local communities.

This partnership was formalized through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) recently signed by NEUST President Rhodora Jugo and Mayor Aries Vincent Patrick Lim at Talavera, Nueva Ecija.

Under the MOA, both parties will collaborate on implementing initiatives aligned with the university’s Globalized Research-based Extension and Training through the Comprehensive Program for Empowerment and Development or GREAT-COPED.

It centers on sharing and applying technologies generated from NEUST research, conducting capacity-building activities, and implementing community programs to foster socio-economic growth.

Jugo highlighted that partnerships with LGUs are essential to turning the university’s research and extension services into tangible benefits for communities.

“As we deep dive into the existence of the university and our partnerships with LGUs, napupuntahan natin ang tunay na mga nangangailangan—doon nagiging masaya tayo, kapag naiangat natin sila sa kanilang kasalukuyang kalagayan (we are able to reach those who truly need help—there we feel joy, when we are able to lift them from their current situation),” she said.

Meanwhile, Lim affirmed the LGU’s support and readiness to adopt NEUST programs within Talavera, emphasizing how academic–LGU collaborations help address community needs through people-centered approaches.

Present at the ceremonial signing were key officials from NEUST, including Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training Jean Guillasper; Extension Services Department Director Marivic Villegas; Northern Nueva Ecija Off-Campus Director Marlon Rufino; Talavera Off-Campus Administrator Rocelie Cipriano-Campos; and other officials from Talavera LGU.

The partnership with the municipal government of Talavera forms part of NEUST’s ongoing efforts to expand collaborations with LGUs, bringing university research and training programs closer to communities across Nueva Ecija and neighboring areas. (CLJD/MAECR, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija)
