MARIVELES, Bataan – The Mangrove Adoption and Protection program, a flagship environmental initiative, earned for the AboitizPower Corporation through its limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD), a recognition at the 61st Anvil Awards held on Wednesday.
The AboitizPower’s project, implemented under the provincial government of Bataan’s Project Transform Baka1Bataan, got the silver Anvil award under the Public Relations programs on Sustainability Communications category.
Organized by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines, the Gabi ng Parangal was held at Solaire Resort North in Quezon City.
GMEC and GNPD Vice President for Corporate Services Andrea Mellind Madrid explained that their mangrove adoption and protection program is not only rehabilitating vital coastal ecosystems but also empowering communities to become long-term protector of the environment.
“This recognition affirms that sustainability is most impactful when it is clearly communicated and deeply rooted in community partnership,” Madrid furthered.
The project has been implemented in 2023 and since then has attained high mangrove seedling survival rate.
Madrid said they have entered into partnerships with local government units, fisherfolk associations, and national agencies that made Baka1Bataan as a model for community- led coastal protection.
“The program reflects GMEC and GNPD’s efforts in environmental stewardship, driven by sustained mangrove adoption and protection efforts, and strengthened through close collaborations with host communities in Bataan,” Madrid added. (30)
