BALANGA CITY – A tricycle driver returned P22,000 in cash left in his tricycle by an employee of an auto supply store who was about to deposit the money in a bank here Tuesday morning.

Junar Makabuhay, 28, of Sta. Rosa, Pilar, Bataan, said he felt relieved and happy that he was able to return the money. “Kahit mahirap lang kami, hindi ko pag-iinteresan ‘yan dahil kaya ko namang kitain,” the tricycle driver said.

He said he did not know that his passenger Jamron Morales, an auto supply employee, left the money in his tricycle until another passenger boarded and informed him about it.

“Agad akong bumalik sa paradahan namin at nagtanong kung may naghahanap ng pera,” Makabuhay who is married and with two small children said. He left the money to their association president who in turn informed Balanga City Traffic Enforcer Ranri Cruz.

“Hindi ko na naisip na mababalik pa sa akin ito kaya malaking tulong ito sa akin. Nagpapasalamat ako sa tricycle driver, sa kanilang pangulo at sa traffic enforcers at marshalls ng Balanga sa pagkakabalik sa akin ng pera,” Morales said.

Morales said he rode the tricycle from Sta. Rosa to a bank in Balanga City with the money tucked in the bank book. “Marami akong hawak kaya hindi ko napuna na nabitawan ko pala ang bank book kaya laking gulat ko na nawawala pala perang dapat kong ideposit,” the employee said.

As a sign of gratefulness, he gave the tricycle driver P2,000 that Makabuhay initially declined but was prevailed upon to receive.

“Nagpapasalamat ako dahil marami pang driver na mabait at mapagkakatiwalaan,” the president of the Sta. Rosa-Balut Tricycle Drivers-Operators Association said.
