TARLAC CITY (PIA) — The Securities and Exchange Commission – Tarlac Extension Office (SEC-TAREO) spearheaded the Investor Protection Week (IPW) Roadshow, where students and staff of Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) received lectures on financial literacy, investment scams, and investor protection.
SEC-TAREO Director Richard Laus highlighted the importance of the SEC in safeguarding the public, particularly in protecting their hard-earned money and avoiding investment schemes.

”We have to share our insights not only with your classmates and your campus. We have to share this with your communities as well, in order for them to know the services of the SEC,” he said.
In connection with financial literacy, responsible and safe borrowing was discussed.
SEC-TAREO Securities Specialist Charito Bañez-Santiago clarified that borrowing is a strategic choice but reminded participants that debt comes with responsibility.
”We have the responsibility to pay. It also entails discipline because we have to sacrifice a portion of our income to repay our debts,” she emphasized.
She also reminded participants to be mindful when borrowing, emphasizing the importance of knowing both their responsibilities and rights as borrowers.
As one of the highlights of the IPW, SEC-TAREO Securities Counsel Emerald Lansangan discussed tips on spotting and unmasking investment scams.
One of the important tip Lansangan shared is by checking the company’s and agent’s licenses with the SEC through the agency’s investment checklist.
TAU President Silverio Ramon Salunson expressed his gratitude to SEC-TAREO for choosing the university as the venue for the event.
He also shared his hope that the activity would later expand into a university-wide event to further strengthen financial literacy and investment protection among the TAU community. (CLJD/AJRR, PIA Region 3-Tarlac)
