BALANGA CITY – Gov. Enrique “Tet” Garcia has announced that his daughter has filed a protest with the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal asking for a manual recount of the results of the elections in four of the six towns in the first district of Bataan.

“It will just be a plain and simple recount of votes to know if the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines had rightly picked up the votes for my daughter Gila and those of her rival,” the reelected governor said.

Gila is Maria Angela S. Garcia who lost by a margin of 3,972 votes to re-electionist Rep. Herminia B. Roman in the congressional race in the first district. Roman was proclaimed on May 11.

She filed the protest with HRET last Friday or 10 days after the proclamation of her opponent that was the last day of filing protests as required by law.

Gila asked for recount of votes in the all towns of the district except those from Morong where she edged her rival by 3,602 votes and in Dinalupihan by 2,535 votes. She lost by a  slight margin in Abucay and Samal.  Roman beat her by more than 4,000 votes each in Orani and Hermosa.

Of the four members of the Garcia family who sought elective positions in the May 10 elections, only Gila lost.

Her father the governor had a margin of 79,028 votes over rival Limay Mayor Nelson David in the gubernatorial slot.  Brother re-electionist Rep. Albert Garcia got 49,822 votes more than lawyer Maria Aurora Gonzales, daughter of Defense Sec. Norberto Gonzales, in the race for congressman in the Second district.

Another brother, re-electionist Balanga City Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III, won by 21,827 votes over opponent former Balanga Mayor Melanio Banzon.
