SAMAL, Bataan – Rural health workers here on the second day Friday continued fogging operations to prevent the surge of dengue cases that increased to about 500 percent this year compared to the same period last year.
AZ Lara, Samal rural sanitation inspector, said that from January 2025 to September 27,2025, there were 154 dengue cases compared to last year’s 31. A six-month old baby was the first mortality last September 17.
He attributed the frequent rains and then sunshine that create favorable breeding grounds for the mosquitoes as one factor in the surge of dengue cases.
“Kailangan talaga ‘search and destroy’. Sana tuloy-tuloy ito,” Lara said. “Search and destroy” is a community undertaking in the destruction of dengue breeding sites.
“Kahapon nagsimula ang fogging o spraying ng gamot sa Barangay Sta. Lucia kasabay ng ‘search and destroy’ sa 14 barangay. Last resort ang fogging o spraying ng kemikal. No. 1 talaga ang ‘search and destroy’ para bago maging adult ang lamok, ma-prevent na,” the sanitary inspector said.
Lara asked residents to coordinate with the barangay for dengue cases. “Sa mga may sintomas, may mataas na lagnat na two to three days, uminom ng maraming tubig. Gumamit din ng protective na kasuotan.” (30)
