BALANGA CITY- An Indian national detained for kidnapping was gunned down Monday afternoon inside a service vehicle of the Bataan provincial jail near a bank at the busy Capitol Drive here.

Supt. Benjamin Silo, Jr., a lawyer and Balanga City police chief, said Bootah Singh, 49, died while being treated for two gunshot wounds in the head at the Bataan General Hospital in this city.

Police recovered two spent shells of caliber .45 at the scene of the crime.

The police chief said the victim was at the front seat of a prison vehicle driven by jail escort  Raymar Regencia when a lone gunman fired twice at close range on Bootah while the vehicle was  in front of LBC Bank at about 1:00 pm.

Reports showed that the lone gunman fled on board a waiting motorcycle driven by another unidentified suspect.

Singh was detained at the Bataan provincial jail last year after he was arrested for alleged involvement in the kidnap-for-ransom activities against other Indian nationals engaged in business in Bataan and other areas.

Silo said police are conducting an intensive investigation of the incident.
