CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — The daily risk of passing through cracked and potholed roads is now a thing of the past for the people of San Jose City, Nueva Ecija following the completion of a P9.7-million rehabilitation project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Located in Barangay Villa Marina, about seven kilometers from the city proper, the 1.19-kilometer, two-lane road used to have large transverse cracks and potholes that endangered motorists and pedestrians, particularly during nighttime when visibility was low.
DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineer Jun Vana explained that the project included full pavement rehabilitation and the restoration of a four-meter-wide carriageway.
“The project addressed pressing safety concerns and significantly improved the road’s structural integrity and functionality, allowing the public to enjoy safer and more convenient travel, reduced vehicle maintenance costs, and better access to essential services such as markets, schools, and healthcare facilities,” Vana said.
Apart from safety, the newly rehabilitated road is expected to enhance economic activity in Villa Marina and neighboring communities by ensuring a more reliable route for goods, services, and commuters.
The initiative supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s priority to strengthen infrastructure as a key driver of growth, ensuring that development projects reach rural areas and directly improve the lives of Filipinos.
