CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call to build resilient communities, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed two multipurpose gymnasium projects worth P6.2 million in the towns of Llanera and Rizal, Nueva Ecija.

In Barangay General Luna, Llanera, the renovated barangay gymnasium now provides a safer and more functional space for residents.

Upgrades include a new roof, repaired flooring to prevent water seepage, brighter lighting fixtures, and newly repainted metal components.

DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineer Jun Vana said the facility is ready to host community activities and serve as a dependable site during emergencies.

“The new multipurpose building will now serve as a reliable venue for assemblies, recreational activities, and emergency gatherings,” Vana shared.

Meanwhile, in Rizal town, students and teachers of Agbannawag Elementary School welcomed the expansion and improvement of their gymnasium.

Aside from accommodating physical education classes and school programs, the facility can also be used for public events and as an evacuation center during calamities.

“The upgraded facilities are designed to support daily school and community activities while also providing safe and dependable shelters during calamities. These structures were built with flexibility in mind, ensuring they can be used for events, classes, and as evacuation centers when necessary,” Vana emphasized.

The two projects, funded under the 2025 national budget, highlight the government’s effort to strengthen education, recreation, and disaster preparedness through infrastructure improvements.

With these facilities, the people of Llanera and Rizal now have better spaces not only for daily activities but also for protection when disasters occur. This reflects the administration’s vision of building resilient and people-centered communities. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija)
