SANTA ROSA, Nueva Ecija – Zhane, the 15-year-old victim in the tragic campus shooting in this town would always start her mother’s day with greetings “Good morning mama, I love you.”
“‘Yang bata na yan kasi ay malambing,” Elvie Entinado, Zhane’s mother has said.
Zhane expired at around 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Centre (PJGMRMC) in Cabanatuan City due to a single bullet wound from a .22 snubnosed revolver fired allegedly by her former boyfriend Menard Canoza inside a classroom at Santa Rosa Integrated School (SRIS) in Barangay Rizal on Aug. 7.
Canoza himself died as he turned the gun to himself.
Dr. Allan Von Casallo, neuro surgeon consultant of PJGMRMC, said Zhane was hit in the right back portion of her head that caused serious bleeding in her brain.
The mother said she had been missing Zhane’s non-failing sweetness that was ended untimely by the tragic incident.
“Aalis ng bahay… mama, aalis na po ako. I love you, mama. Paglabas niya ng school, mama pauwi na po ako,” Entinado said these were the words she wants to hear again from Zhane.
Zhane is the youngest among three siblings.
She earlier studied at Santa Rosa National High School in Barangay Soledad in this town where Canoza family resides. In that school, Canoza and Zhane reportedly met and had a relationship until the girl was transferred for undisclosed reason to the SRIS at the beginning of the current school year.
“Sobrang bait po yang bata po na ‘yan,” Entinado said, noting that teachers have been telling her about her daughter’s dedication to her studies.
Meanwhile, police said the incident was effectively rendered “case closed” with the death of Canoza but the investigation on where he got the gun continues.
Santa Rosa police chief Major Williard Dulnuan said forensic test showed the gun bear no serial number.
“Pumanaw na po yung suspek natin so considered case close na po ‘yun,” Dulnuan said. “Pero ipagpatuloy pa namin ang investigation. Gagamit pa kami ng ibang investigative technique.”
