Gracing the celebration of the Philippine Carabao Center’s (PCC’s) 25th anniversary here, Villar said the code will provide a bigger chunk of budget to the agency that takes charge of the carabao upgrading program.
“They produce one third of our agricultural products, theoretically they are entitled to the budget of the Department of Agriculture,” Villar said.
Former PCC executive Dir. Libertado Cruz, meanwhile, said the agency has reached the time to harvest benefits for the farmers 25 years after its establishment. He noted that the PCC had faced challenging events in the past.
Villar expressed hope that further success in dairy industry will encourage farmers to stick with agriculture-based enterprises on the estimate that a farmer earns P15,000 a month on dairy as against P4,500 a month in other agriculture ventures.
