This as the the local government unit (LGU) turned over a four-story 28-classroom building to the densely populated Cabanatuan East Central School (CECS) in Barangay Bantug this city on Tuesday.
Present at the ceremony were 3rd Dist. Rep. Rosanna Vergara, Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod headed by Vice Mayor Anthony Umali, and City Schools Division superintendent Dr. Rhoda Razon.
The mayor said the schoolbuilding which was expected to ease up learning for some 3,900 pupils of CECS, was funded out of the city’s Special Education Fund (SEF) that, as mandated by law, is the share of education from the LGU’s real property tax collection.
Vergara said the city government has earlier turned over a similar infrastructure to tbe Lazaro Franciso Elementary School (the former Cabanatuan West Central School) in Barangay Zulueta here.
The buildings, the local chief executive said, can withstand intensity seven earthquake.
He also said that besides offering convenience to both students and teaching personnel, the schoolbuildings have enough security features. “Makikita niyo na ligtas at maayos ito para sa mga mag-aaral,” he said.
At least five other four-storey facilities with seven to nine classrooms per level are set to be built in other populated public schools in the city using SEF, he revealed.
Also, according to Mayor Vergara, the city has set P140 million as its target SEF collection this year but it has already accumulated P210 million, including last year’s surplus of P70 million, as of end of April 2017.
It’s all because of good governance, he stated.
