CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija (PIA) — The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) is set to offer its Doctor of Medicine program this academic year, following the approval of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to establish its College of Medicine (COM).

University President Rhodora Jugo said that the approval of the COM represents a celebration of progress and purpose, equipping future doctors with the knowledge and skills needed while inspiring them to serve with excellence, empathy, and a strong commitment to nation-building.

The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) College of Medicine recently conducted a faculty development workshop aimed at strengthening competencies in curriculum planning, innovative teaching methodologies, and instructional design, ensuring alignment with national standards for medical education. “As we always say, at NEUST, we continue to nourish the mind, nurture the heart, and lead the future, and this time, through our College of Medicine program,” the University President said.

To ensure academic excellence, the university recently held a workshop focused on enhancing the competencies of the COM faculty in areas such as curriculum planning, teaching methodologies, and instructional design, ensuring that these elements align with national standards for medical education.

COM Dean Edgardo Ortiz presented the academic priorities and strategic direction of the college, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative and forward-thinking approach to developing NEUST’s emerging medical program.

The training was facilitated by Dr. Erlyn Sana and Dr. Melflor Atienza from the National Teacher Training Center for the Health Professions (NTTCHP), who discussed the roles and responsibilities of medical educators, the foundational principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), and effective strategies for curriculum development.

Participants engaged in sessions on crafting learning outcomes, organizing course content, incorporating information and communication technology (ICT) in instruction, and adapting teaching and learning strategies for both classroom and clinical settings.

Hands-on activities allowed faculty members to create course plans and align educational tools with real-life scenarios.

CHED granted the university authority to operate the first and second years of the Doctor of Medicine program through Commission en Banc (CEB) Resolution No. 386-2025, dated May 13, 2025. (MJSC/CNG, PIA 3- Nueva Ecija)
