MAGALANG, Pampanga – Eleven bedridden nonagenarians here for the first time received in their homes their very representative in Congress bringing gifts funded out of his own pockets.
“Ako po ay magbabahay-bahay dahil gusto ko pong malaman ang bawat pulso, bawat kailangan, at bawat hinaing ng aking mga kababayan sa Unang Distrito ng Pampanga,” said 1st District Rep. Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. “Gusto ko pong lalong ilapit ang aking sarili at aking serbisyo sa bawat pintuan ng aking mga kababayan sa distrito, lalo na po sa mga kapus-palad.”
The neophyte congressman personally delivered P2,000 financial assistance, Vitamin C supplements, five kilos of rice, and free medical check-ups to each of the elderly he visited in Barangays Camias, San Nicolas I, and San Pedro I and II.
This is in continuation of the visits conducted by Lazatin back in March, where he delivered similar forms of assistance including free complete blood tests via a mobile clinic to 322 senior citizens in Mabalacat City and 247 senior citizens in Magalang.
“Malaking pasasalamat po namin na nakapunta po dito sa tahanan namin si Cong Pogi Lazatin. Nagkataon may nararamdamang sakit yung mother ko. Ngayon lang po may bumisita sa amin na pulitiko po. So, maraming-maraming salamat po sa tulong na pinagkaloob niyo po sa amin,” said Joey Dimitui, son of senior citizen Amancia Dimitui.
“Maraming salamat po sa pagbisita niya po sa nanay ko kailangan na po talaga namin ng tulong, sa dami ng kanyang sakit… di niya akalain na may ganito darating si Cong… di ako sanay na may ganito na tumutulong,” said Melinda Tongol, daughter of senior citizen Marta Tongol, “Ngayon lang may first time na bumisita sa kanya. Thank you po.”
As mayor of Angeles City, Lazatin has been known for his accessible, “door-to-door” delivery of public service, regularly visiting the barangays to personally deliver social services, including free inoculations and vitamins for children, and free medicines and social pension for senior citizens.
Now as representative, Lazatin vows to continue this practice in the first district of Pampanga.
