CARRANGLAN, Nueva Ecija – Six people were killed while 12 others were hurt when the dumptruck they were riding fell into a ravine after being sideswiped by a larger trailer along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Puncan this municipality on Sunday.

Senior Insp. German Lising, town police chief, said that Lorenz Gahal, village head of Butao, Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya and Suzette Dulnuan died on the spot while four others – Lita Nagsagaray, Josephine Jallorina, Teresita Aban and Rosa Lunag – died while receiving medical treatment in different hospitals after the dumptruck (SFI-528) they were riding fell into ravine in Sitio Tactac, Barangay Puncan this town at about 3:00 p.m .

Investigation showed that the dumptruck, driven by Gahal, was heading towards north when hit by a trailer truck (ZKE-391) driven by a certain Gilbert Alarcon, causing the former to lose control on the wheel, thus plunged into the ravine.

Alarcon abandoned the trailer truck in Barangay Joson, also of this municipality, police said.

The group was part of 13-vehicle convoy that came from a study tour, Lising said.

Lising said police, soldiers from the Philippine Army’s 81st Infantry Brigade and residents helped to rescue wounded individuals which were rushed to various hospitals in Cabanatuan City, San Jose City and Nueva Vizcaya.
