CABANATUAN CITY – Nueva Ecija reelectionist Governor Aurelio Umali widens his lead over his rival, Vice Gov. Edward Thomas Joson with 370,756 as against the latter’s 224,732 votes.

The figures were based on partial unofficial tally from the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP).

The third candidate, Felipe Pajarillo gained 3,925.

For vice governor, Umali’s runningmate Gay Paduernos is also winning with 327,425 votes over incumbent senior Board Member Romel Padilla with 242,984 votes. Another candidate, Ricardo Santiago got 5,301.

The figures represent 70 percent of the province’s 1,770 clustered precincts, according to the KBP data.

Earlier, malfunctioning precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines hamper the canvassing of votes from several municipalities in the province, a ranking election official said on Tuesday.

Lawyer Fernando Cot-om, provincial election supervisor of Nueva Ecija, said the provincial board of canvassers has formally convened Monday noon but could not move on since only electronically submitted results from Palayan City and Nampicuan have been received by the board as of press time.
