Comelec gun ban nets nine in Nueva Ecija

    CABANATUANCITY – The strict implementation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban has netted nine people, including a law enforcer, a businessman and an alleged robbery gang member, in Nueva Ecija, police reported on Thursday.

    Senior Supt. Ricardo Marquez, director of the Nueva Ecija police provincial office (NEPPO), said that charges of violations of the Omnibus Election Code and illegal possession of firearms have been filed against the suspect before the provincial and city prosecutors’ office.

    Among those arrested were identified as Police Officer 1 Ronald Baldonaza and Crispin Velasco, both of San Jose City; Raymond Oanes of Gapan City; Floriano Fermin, 58, businessman of 26 Barangay Magsaysay Sur here; Felipe Galicia Sr. and Felipe Galicia Jr. both of San Antonio, Nueva Ecija; Oscar Pacariem and Francis Asuncion, both of the Science City; Jermie Prades and Ramon Alejandro,

    Elements of the Cabanatuan City police under Supt. Manuel Cornel arrested Fermin in a checkpoint at around 7:30 pm Wednesday after he was caught red handed with an unlicensed caliber 9 mm pistol and 25 rounds of ammunition.

    The apprehension was made, according to Coronel, after an informant called on the police to report the presence of an initially unidentified person, which later turned out to be Fermin who had the gun tucked in his waist. When confronted, Fermin could not produce any documents covering the firearm.

    In San Antonio town, joint elements of the provincial public safety and management company under Supt. Edgar Allan Okubo and the San Antonio police under OIC-police station commander, Chief Inspector Arnold Palomo arrested Tuesday Galicia Sr. and his son who were caught possessing a 9 mm Beretta, a caliber .38 Squire Bringham, a caliber 22 Blue Marlin and a caliber .45 Remington.

    Okubo said a case has been filed against the Galicias before the Regional Trial Court in Guimba.

    In Gapan City, Supt. Ricardo Villanueva said his men seized a magnum .357 paltik revolver from Oanes.

    Villanueva said Oanes has past involvement in indiscriminate firing near his residence and has reported links with a robbery-holdup gang.

    Police also seized in a series of operations a Colt .45 revolver, a caliber .38 homemade shotgun, a caliber 9 mm pistol, a caliber 5.556 baby Armalite and a 12-gauge homemade shotgun.
