CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (GEF SGP) has approved a P2 million conservation and management initiative for the Talaytay Protected Landscape (TPL) in Aurora.

The funding will support the sustainability of the tenured area of the Talaytay Protected Landscape Occupants Association (TPLOA) Inc., a people’s organization within the protected area.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo said the agency will support the project through its field offices in Aurora, with Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office Head Alfredo Collado and Community Chief Jecelyn Baes leading the efforts.

“We will continue to support GEF in promoting innovative and scalable initiatives and fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships to address environmental challenges in key landscapes and seascapes,” Pablo said.

Set to run until 2026, the project aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of beneficiaries and the community through the production of quality local products while preserving the unique characteristics of natural resources within the TPL’s jurisdiction.

TPLOA committed to actively manage the landscape, enhance management effectiveness, and develop alternative livelihoods through the biodiversity-friendly enterprise concept.

The GEF SGP, implemented by the United Nations Development Program, funds community-based projects that address global environmental challenges while promoting sustainable livelihoods. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Pampanga)
