CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—A young man here continued to struggle with his life two days after a member of the police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group shot him on the head and left dead his father and best friend after a quarrel last Saturday.

Jefferson Salonga, the lone survivor in the shooting incident that took place at the Pampanga police camp, already underwent an operation that removed the blood clots on his brain. The bullet, which pierced the right temple, exited through the left side.

His sister, Eden de Guzman, said doctors informed the family that Salonga’s chances of survival were nil.

“We’re told that if he would live, he would be like a stale vegetable,” she said, pleading for prayers for her younger brother.

The community has been trying to pitch in money for the operation that has yet to be paid. The city government here has donated P20,000, care of Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines where Salonga’s mother Evelyn works as an assistant secretary. Meanwhile, the provincial government of Pampanga donated P5,000. [For donations, text or call Eden de Guzman 09084884390]

While Salonga remains in the hospital, the family is holding a wake for his father Melanio who, in trying to save his son, was shot dead by Benedicto Pasiguen, a non-uniformed personnel of the CIDG in Pampanga.

Salonga’s best friend, Mark John Manalese, 20, died from a gunshot on the forehead.

Pasiguen has gone into hiding but has sent surrender feelers, according to CIDG Central Luzon chief, Senior Supt. Marvin Bola-Bola.

“My order is for him to be immediately yield. The tracker team has the same order,” Bola-Bola said.

According to the San Fernando police, Pasiguen came at the request of Alex Briones with whom Salonga’s group had a quarrel with. The shooting happened inside a grill bar where the young men ran for safety. Salonga’s parents came to pacify to no avail.

Salonga, who finished high school, worked as an aide in a local law office.

With the help of the IBP, Evelyn has filed a complaint for double murder, frustrated murder, attempted murder and grave threats against Pasiguen.
