CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A total of 2,438 police officers have been deployed and 314 checkpoints were set up across Central Luzon to enforce the Commission on Elections gun ban during the election period starting Jan. 12 until June 11.

Newly-appointed Police Regional Office-3 director Brig. Gen. Jean S. Fajardo said the simultaneous checkpoint operations had immediate results with the arrest of 25 individuals for carrying firearms: eight in Nueva Ecija, six in Pampanga, five in Bataan, three in Zambales, and two in Bulacan.

This, even as Fajardo called on the public to cooperate with authorities during checkpoint operations, assuring them that police personnel will adhere to established protocols and uphold citizens’ rights. Motorists are reminded to slow down, dim their headlights, turn on cabin lights, and respond promptly when approached by police officers at checkpoints.

“I have also reminded our personnel to remain courteous to motorists and strictly follow the general guidelines outlined in our Revised Police Operational Procedures,” noted the first ever lady cop to head PRO-3.

The carrying and transport of firearms, deadly weapons, and explosives are strictly prohibited within the election period of Jan. 12 to June 11. Violators face stringent penalties ranging from one to 12 years of imprisonment. Punto News Team/PRO-3
