This initiative bridges the digital divide by improving connectivity in rural and underserved communities.

“Free Wi-Fi has been installed in rural areas, particularly in public schools, including elementary and high schools, remote barangays, municipal government buildings, and several state universities,” he said.

In addition to the Wi-Fi sites, DICT has established two active Government Network (GovNet) hubs in Central Luzon: one in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga, which connects 49 government agencies, and another in Subic Bay, Zambales, linking 44 agencies.

“We are working to extend connectivity to regional government networks in San Fernando, La Union; Baguio City; Subic Bay; and the National Capital Region. By next year, we will expand connectivity to the government network at the Diosdado Macapagal Government Center in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga,” Padre explained.

The agency has also set up 10 Digital Transformation Centers across the region, offering ICT training programs designed to empower marginalized groups.

To date, 85 training sessions have benefited over 8,000 participants, including persons with disabilities, women, Indigenous Peoples, and senior citizens.

Among the specialized programs, four technical training sessions for aspiring freelancers have graduated 58 individuals, and DICT has administered 65 ICT diagnostic exams to 1,128 examinees.

“We also provide basic troubleshooting training and offer global certifications for IT professionals,” Padre said, noting that these certifications are internationally recognized and facilitated by a global certification company.

Through these initiatives, DICT continues to promote inclusivity, digital literacy, and economic growth. Padre reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to closing the digital divide and creating opportunities for Filipinos, emphasizing the government’s dedication to leveraging technology for regional development and empowerment.

Individuals and organizations interested in these programs can contact their nearest DICT provincial office. Training activities and updates are also available on DICT Region 3’s official Facebook page. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Pampanga)
