OLONGAPO CITY — SM Olongapo Central and SM Olongapo Downtown wrapped up their 2024 community and safety initiatives with the final Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) and coastal cleanup event for the year. The two events, which took place on different days, highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to safety, emergency preparedness, and environmental responsibility.
SM conducted its final NSED of 2024 last Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. The drill was part of the company’s regular safety program designed to ensure that all employees are prepared for emergency situations. After the drill, teams participated in a debriefing session headed by the representatives from the city disaster risk reduction and management office and Bureau of Fire Protection to evaluate their responses and discuss improvements for future drills.
The following day, Nov. 15, the coastal cleanup was held at Parola, Barangay Kalaklan. SM admin employees, along with their tenants, affiliates, agencies and local volunteers, such as DENR-CENRO, ESMO and Barangay Kalaklan representatives gathered early in the morning to help remove plastic waste, litter, and debris from the beach. As part of SM’s commitment to sustainability, the quarterly coastal cleanups have become a meaningful tradition.
SM Supermalls is looking forward to continue hosting these initiatives in 2025. Contributed photos
