BOTOLAN, ZAMBALES – Some 19 farmers from this municipality learned new technology and methodology in rice hybrid farming after completing the 16-week training course at PalayCheck Farmers’ Field School in Noemer Dedicatoria’s Farm, Barangay San Miguel, recently.
The recent PalayCheck Farmers’ Field training is the third of a series conducted to train farmers how to increase their rice production and vegetable yield.
Mayor Nerma I. Yap said providing trainings and hybrid seeds assistance is a continuing advocacy of her administration to uplift the economic condition of most farmers in her municipality.
“Farming is a major source of income for Botolanos and 75 percent of the income we generate comes from the farming industry,” Yap said.
Dionisio Galeng, municipal agriculture officer of Botolan, said the PalayCheck training program will equip farmers the best practices in managing and developing rice crops.
“The PalayCheck system provides processes and methodology to assist farmers to learn and adopt the best practices in farmers group. It integrates all the components technologies and is concerned not only on what the farmers needs to do (practices) but also on what the farmers need to achieve (the result)”, Galeng said.
“Majority of the farmers here belong to the marginalized sector, so learning new technology and methodology in planting and harvesting hybrid rice will increase rice production and ultimately increase the income of farmers,” said Sangguniang Bayan Member Anselmo Nalicat. He is also the chairman of the Committee on Agriculture.
