Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) and SSS, through its partnership on the UMID (Unified Multi-Purpose Identification) Pay Card — a seamless digital bridge between government services and online banking, recently rewarded a lucky SSS member and cardholder with an early Holiday gift.

At the conclusion of the UnionBank SSS UMID Pay Card AsenSSSo raffle promo (that previously had weekly draws awarding brand-new Yamaha NMax Motorcycles to fortunate UMID Pay Card holders), a software engineer from Taguig City was awarded the grand prize – a Nissan Navara pick-up truck!  29-year old SSS UMID Pay cardholder, Joseph Niel Tuazon collected his prize at a turn-over and awarding ceremony held at the SSS Main office in Quezon City.

Tuazon, who is a frequent user of the SSS UMID Pay Card to transfer money, pay for bills, and other online transactions in UnionBank’s primary retail app UB Online said, “I received a call that I had won a car and I got emails too from UnionBank directly! It feels like a dream, and I couldn’t believe I had won something so big, I still couldn’t believe it until today.” “I am so grateful to UnionBank and SSS for this opportunity…hopefully raffles like this continue, because this can help so many people,” he added.

Tuazon wanted to upgrade his old UMID Card and applied for the new UnionBank SSS UMID Pay Card as it provided members a convenient and efficient way to open a bank account. His usage qualified him for the raffle, as SSS members who upgraded to the new UnionBank SSS UMID Pay Card, used their account to send money or pay bills via UnionBank Online, and maintained a balance of at least Php2,000 were automatically entered into the draw.

The SSS UMID Pay Card provides members/beneficiaries a convenient and efficient means of opening a bank account and enrolling an SSS disbursement account in one instead of the usual process of going to the bank to open an account and manually enrolling a bank account as an SSS disbursement account. This process has been widely embraced by new SSS members and beneficiaries that need to file claims but initially didn’t have bank accounts that functioned as SSS disbursement accounts.

The awarding ceremony was attended by esteemed representatives from both organizations. Representing SSS were (then commissioner and now) OIC and UnionBank Director Robert Joseph De Claro, EVP Elvira Alcantara-Resare, and SVP Normita Doctor, while UnionBank had Corporate Banking Group Head Chett Bernad, Consumer Retail Marketing Head Kenneth Mariano, and Product Management Lead Mikey Tang, witnessing the turnover.

In congratulating all previous winners and participants of the raffle promo, SSS Identity Management Manager Jose Antonio Salazar remarked, “The success of the UMID Pay Card upgrade promo reflects our shared dedication to serving SSS members more effectively. We thank UnionBank for being a part of this journey, as we in SSS continue to improve and innovate for the benefit of all SSS members and their beneficiaries.”

UnionBank’s Transaction Banking Center Head Ramon Duarte acknowledged and said  “All of this was made possible because of our partnership, and because of the opportunity that SSS has allowed us to extend and solve for the needs of their members. This is very much one of the best examples of what we call at UnionBank a ‘culture of co-creating’ and solving the problem with the people who know the problem best.”

UnionBank was also recently awarded by SSS as its “Best Collecting Partner” in the Universal Bank category.
