150 women in Morong receive livelihood help

    MORONG, Bataan – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Fisheries Office III, municipal government of this town, and the Subic Bay Integrated Fisheries, and Aquatic Resource Management Council (SBI-FARMC) awarded post-harvest equipment and cash assistance to womenfolk organizations during an awarding ceremony in this town Tuesday afternoon.

    Gracing this occasion were Ma. Angela Garcia in behalf of Gov. Enrique Garcia, municipal information officer Pablo Estacio, Morong municipal agriculturist Imelda Lantio, SBI-FARMC chairman Laureano DS Artagame and members of the Sangguniang Bayan of Morong.

    Morong municipal FARMC chairman Restituto Del Rosario said recipients of the livelihood assistance were cooperatives composed of wives fisher folk here.  Among them were the Women Organization of Panbatuhan with 35 members, Samahan ng Mangingisda ng Baukok with 35 members, the Rural Improvement Club with 30 members and the Samahan ng mga Mangingisda ng Gantuan with 50 members.

    The BFAR awarded post-harvest equipment composed of one unit of smoked house and various kitchen utensils, while the municipal government through Mayor Cynthia Estanislao-Linao and the SBI-FARMC gave P20,000 for each organization.

    The livelihood assistance was also part of the Gender Sensitivity program of BFAR to help alleviate the condition of the womenfolk in Region III.
     

    Earlier, the beneficiaries undertake trainings on processing and marketing of various fishery products and technical know-how on smoked-fish processing.

    In her message, Garcia lauded the efforts of BFAR, SBI-FARMC and the Local Government Unit of Morong in helping the beneficiaries in terms of livelihood development opportunities and technical trainings.

    “Women are part of the society so we should encourage them to enhance their skills and manage their resources to help their fisher folk,” she added.

    Meanwhile, the beneficiaries will keep and maintain the equipment in good condition and maintain formal records for project monitoring.

    The MFARMC-Morong will also coordinate with the beneficiaries in the conduct of periodic monitoring and evaluation to ascertain the progress and accomplishment of the livelihood project.
