Different Municipal Disaster Coordinating Councils, the 24th Infantry Brigade and the Barangay Disaster Coordinating Council also helped in distributing relief goods to victims of typhoon “Juan”.
More than 2,000 families, mostly living along coastal barangays, were evacuated in various churches, elementary schools and health centers in the municipalities of Sta. Cruz, Candelaria, Masinloc, Iba, Botolan, Cabangan, San Felipe, San Narciso, San Antonio, San Marcelino, Castillejos, and Subic.
“Juan” destroyed more than 1,600 hectares of palay, 22 hectares of ready to harvest vegetable crops and fruit bearing trees.
Reports disclosed that 48 houses were totally damaged while 10 were partially smashed in Iba, Botolan, Cabangan, San Antonio and San Narciso towns.
In Subic, Laureano Artagame, chairman of the Subic Bay Integrated Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Management Council (SBI-FARMC), reported that more than 50 families have been evacuated in Ilwas Elementary School, this town.
The provincial government immediately released P5-million as initial fund for relief operations.
Meanwhile, a seminarian was reported dead from drowning while swimming in one of the beach resorts in Iba town Monday afternoon.
Police identified the victim as Allan de Guzman, 40, under the of Order of Piarist Father Seminary and resident of No. 144, 9th St., New Manila, Quezon City.
