PEÑARANDA, Nueva Ecija – A police officer was killed in an encounter with robbers in a supermarket heist in Barangay Poblacion 1 here shortly after 12 a.m. Sunday.
The fatality was identified as Staff Sgt. Jhon Espinoza of the municipal police station.
Investigation disclosed the policemen responded to the robbery break-in by a group of unidentified armed robbers at the STM Supermarket.
“Upon receipt of said report, elements of this station immediately proceeded at the place of incident but said suspects fired at the responding team. Unfortunately, PSSgt. Jhon V. Espinoza was shot in the head and rushed to Gapan District Hospital located at Gapan City, Nueva Ecija but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician,” police reported.
A follow up is being undertaken for possible arrest of the suspects
