CLARK FREPORT – In its bid to reduce emissions and advance the adoption of energy-efficient and carbon-neutral solutions in New Clark City, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Danish firm Danfoss for the formulation of a decarbonization framework for the rising metropolis in Capas, Tarlac.

Under the MOU, Danfoss Philippines Inc. will share its technical expertise and assist the BCDA in conducting studies on the implementation of decarbonization program in NCC.

BCDA president and CEO Joshua Bingcang and Danfoss Philippines general manager Allan Alfredo Almendrala signed the MOU on Sept. 16 at the BCDA Corporate Center in Bonifacio Global City with Ambassador Franz-Michael Mellbin of the Royal Danish Embassy in Manila present to witness the signing.

The MOU came about after the forum-workshop supported by the Royal Danish Embassy at the NCC last month where the BCDA and Danfoss Inc. discussed energy efficiency and decarbonization strategies crucial to the development of NCC as a smart and green urban space.

Ambassador Mellbin, who led the dignitaries present during the event, said the Danish government will help BCDA in “optimizing the New Clark City for energy efficiency” through sharing Danish expertise in green solutions and innovation.

Danfoss Inc. is a company committed to meeting global climate and energy goals. It offers the best-in-class technology and solutions to drive the green transition through energy efficiency, machine productivity, lower emissions, and electrification, the BCDA said.

Built into the development and investment plans of NCC, sustainability covers initiatives including the development of renewable energy, the use of low-carbon district cooling technologies, smart governance of mass transportation, and the establishment of a solid waste-to-energy system and facilities.

“We are not only mindful of the commercial arrangement. We want sustainability to be a key factor in our development. We are always into ‘future-proofing’, especially on the sustainability aspect of development,” noted Bingcang during the forum.

The BCDA president enumerated the agency’s flagship projects and green initiatives including the development and expansion of industrial spaces, greenbelts and river parks, eco-tourism and hospitality facilities, universities, the expansion of the Clark International Airport, the Subic-Clark-Manila-Batangas Railway System, Clark National Food Hub, and the NCC housing project. among others.

In developing NCC, BCDA has included green and sustainable projects, such as the Green Boulevard, the New Clark City River Park System, and the New Clark City Central Park, to protect and preserve the natural environs of the development, Bingcang furthered. Punto News Team/BCDA Public Affairs
