BALANGA CITY — Some 300 families from Barangay Lamao in Limay, Bataan who were affected by the oil spill from a sunken vessel were the beneficiaries Friday of relief goods from SM Foundation.

Employee-volunteers from SM City Bataan partnered with SM Foundation in the distribution to the victims of 300 kalinga packs composed of rice, bottled water, instant cup noodles and canned goods.

The relief assistance is under Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) of SM Foundation in collaboration with SM Supermalls and SM Markets. It is intended to support the affected families with essential supplies to help alleviate their immediate needs.

SM City Bataan information officer Paula Gayeta said that OPTE aims to provide rapid response during calamities and crisis. “Since its establishment, OPTE has successfully distributed over 800,000 Kalinga packs across the Philippines.”

Bataan was placed under two declaration of state of calamity, the first due to Typhoon Carina and habagat, and the second because of threat of oil spills from three vessels. Photos: SM
